Avy, Charente-Maritime
Avy is a West commune with 470 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Charente -Maritime in the Poitou -Charentes.
Location
Avy is located about 35 meters above sea level. inst at a distance of about 25 km ( driving distance ) south-east of Saintes in the cultural landscape of the Saintonge. The capital of the canton, Pons is located about six miles northwest. Other cities with impressive Romanesque churches are just a few kilometers away: Pérignac, Bougneau, Échebrune, Chadenac, Biron, Marignac et al.
Demographics
Since the first census in France in 1793, the population of the village has remained largely stable.
Economy
The agriculture ( grain and wine) still plays the largest role in the economy of the small community, which belongs to the wine-growing region of Cognac Fins Bois in the region. In the 1970s and 1980s, the rental cottages ( gîtes ) is added as a source of income of the village.
