Awilo Longomba
Awilo Longomba is a Congolese musician.
Life
Awilo Longomba is the son of Victor Longomba, a founding member of the rumba group Tout puissant OK Jazz, and related with the band members of The Longombas, a known Afro - fusion band in Kenya.
Awilo Longomba began his career as a drummer in the group Viva la Musica, Stukas, Nouvelle Generation and Loketo. In 1995, he began a solo career as a singer and released his first album Moto Pamba with the support of Shimita, Ballou Canta, Dindo Yogo, Dally Kimoko, Sam Mangwana, Syran Mbenza and Rigo Star.
His album mondongo (2004) features Japponais, Dally Kimoko, Caen Madoka, Djudjuchet, Josky and Simaro Lutumba.
Awilo Longomba lives in France and is romantically involved with musician Barbara Kanam, who has also won a Kora Award in 2003.
