Axel C. Heitmann

Axel Claus Heitmann ( born October 2, 1959 in Hamburg ) is a German chemist and manager.

Study and career

Heitmann studied chemistry in Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1988 at the University of Southampton to the Ph.D.. 1989, he began his career with Bayer AG in Leverkusen. In 1991 he became head of the rubber Bromsgrove site of Bayer AG in the United Kingdom. In 1996 he moved to polymer latex, a joint venture of Bayer AG and Degussa AG.

1999 to early 2002, he led the Bayer subsidiary Wolff Walsrode AG and took over shortly after the management of the Rubber Business Group of Bayer AG, before he was appointed in July 2002 to the Executive Committee of Bayer MaterialScience. On 16 September 2004, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer Lanxess AG, 2013, some 17,200 workers employed. Heitmann led the specialty chemicals company in the DAX. On February 28, 2014 Heitmann has resigned from his position as a member and Chairman of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG.

Private

Heitmann is married and has two children.

Honors and Awards

Since April 2006 Heitmann honorary citizen of the city of Wuxi. In January 2007, Heitmann was voted by the readers of the magazines Euro and Euro am Sonntag Entrepreneur of the Year 2006. Furthermore, according to a survey by the U.S. business publishing "Institutional Investor" by analysts, investors and fund managers in June of the same year that he was elected to the category " Basic Materials " sector " Chemicals ", among the top five CEOs in Europe. In November 2009, Heitmann received the Econ Award as personality of the year.
