The Río Ayopaya is the headwaters of the Río Cotacajes and flows along the eastern slopes of the Andean Cordillera in the South American country of Bolivia.

The Río Ayopaya forms at the eastern edge of the Serrania de Sicasica from the union of the Río Leque with the Río Colquiri at an altitude of 2329 m. The river flows from its formation to the north and unites after 40 kilometers with the Río Ichoca - Colquiri the Río Sacambaya. On the entire route of the Río Ayopaya forms the border between the Cochabamba Department and the Department of La Paz

The north then Río Sacambaya unites after 37 kilometers with the Río Negro ( La Paz ) to the Río Cotacajes, which in turn flows together after another 125 kilometers to the Río Santa Elena and down the river bears the name Río Alto Beni.
