Ayyuqi

Ayyuqi is a Persian poet of the 5./11. Century ( isl. / Christl. Era), the romantic story of Warqa and Gulschah ( Varqa o Golshah ) brought into verse. He worked at the court of Ghaznawidensultan Abu Qasem Mahmud, whom he praises in his preface to Warqa and Gulschah. Here he gave himself his name as Ayyuqi to, but there are otherwise virtually no information about him.

After manifesting influence by Firdausi style in the Shahnameh, which can be shown in many passages Ayyuqis work Warqa and Gulschah, it seems likely that Warqa and Golshah is published by the Shahnameh. Aside from that, Ayyuqi seems little in the literary idiom of his time to know about, suggesting a poet of little further education. In other respects ( topic development, sense representation ) can be classified as work rather mediocre.

A special feature of the work is the interweaving of ten Ghazalen ( In Motaqareb Versmas ) in the narrative structure, a method not previously used - but was later often imitated. The use of archaic words whose pronunciation ( vocalized transcript ) and the detection of specific grammatical peculiarities refer to the early 5./11. Century as the publication date of this work and make it interesting from a philological point of view.

The work was based on Arab sources - the adventures and romance of Urwa and Afra - from Ayyuqi (as he himself admitted ) as a first Persian version anfertigte. Elements of the story broke later in the Spanish and French literature ( in modified form ). They formed the basis for the popular in the 12th century romance Floire et Blanche.

The plant survived in a single manuscript in the Topkapi Sarayi Museum Istanbul, which is decorated with 71 color illustrations. The undated manuscript probably not later than the 7./13. Century come. A facsimile edition was produced in Graz, Austria.
