Aziz KocaoÄŸlu

Aziz Kocaoglu (* 1948 in Tokat, Turkey) is the mayor of Izmir, the third largest city of Turkey.

Life

Kocaoglu 1973 studied economics at the Aegean University in Izmir. A year later, he attended the University of Istanbul. Between 1975 and 1978 he worked as an accountant. In 1979 he opened his own shop where he sold furniture and ceramics. At the same time his political career began at the youth branch of the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi.

After many years as a member of the CHP, he was elected on 28 March 2004 at the Mayor of the Borough of Bornova. After the sudden death of Ahmet Piriştina, the mayor of the city, Kocaoglu was his successor. In the local elections in Turkey in 2009 he was re-elected as mayor.
