Azzolino Bernardino della Ciaja

Azzolino Bernardino della Ciaia (also Ciaja; born May 21, 1671 at Siena; † January 15, 1755 in Pisa) was an Italian composer.

The scion of a noble family was a member of the Equestrian Order of Saint Stephen, and received the Order in school his musical education. However, he did not serve the Order as a musician.

He created works of various kinds; noteworthy are his harpsichord sonatas Opus 4 ( 1727), through their full sequence ( Toccata - Two dance movements - Canzone ) already point out the basic shape of the later piano sonata.

Della Ciaia was active in organ building, so he built in Pisa an organ with four manuals and more than 60 registers.
