Baade (crater)

Baade is an impact crater near the southwestern edge of the moon on the lunar front side, southwest of the giant impact basin of Mare Orientale. To the northwest is the crater Graff and due west of the crater Catalán emerging. The area east of the crater forms the connection between the 280- kilometer Vallis Bouvard in the north and the narrower, 160 -kilometer Vallis Baade south-southeast direction. Both valleys radiate from the Mare in southeastern direction.

Baade shows substantially circular in shape, with sharp-edged foreign and partially terraced inner walls. The crater interior ind rough and irregular, and has in general schüsselförmigem look no clearly defined crater floor. A central elevation at the center is missing and the entire crater shows no significant signs of erosion due to later carried out strikes.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1964 by the German astronomer Walter Baade.
