Babieniec

Babieniec ( German Babziens ) is a village in Poland, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in powiat Kętrzyński in the community Korsze.

History

The village was mentioned in 1374 as Babaten and in the Polonized spellings Babazayn and Babaczin. The name meaning is unclear: " boba " ( a type of fish ) or " babo " (Bean). The village was created in 1390 by Kulm law with 40 hooves surface. There was a coaching inn, but did not go particularly well, so the operator only had to pay half of the fees of the other residents.

1973 made ​​the place a community association with two other places and belonged to the municipality Korsze. In 1970 there was a four-year school in town. In an administrative reform in 1975, the town was part of the newly formed Province of Olsztyn, and remained so until its dissolution. As of 1999, the village was again part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
