Babylonian astronomical diaries

Astronomical observation texts represent the third -Babylonian astronomical text genre in addition to the ACT and Gadex texts dar. Otto Neugebauer called the astronomical observation texts therefore by extension also "non -ACT - texts".

A limitation to certain topics missing from this text category. The content is about the observation of certain planets, occultations and other astronomical contexts that are not dealt with in the ACT and Gadex texts.

The oldest Okkultationstexte can be dated BC to the eighth century, confirming the records of Claudius Ptolemy, the ( BC 747-734 ) refers to Babylonian observations since the time of Nabu - nasir. The Okkultationstexte were Claudius Ptolemy in his adaptation in an almost complete collection since 747 BC before.

The other observation reports were mostly made in the three centuries BC; occasionally also records from the sixth century BC are available.
