Nibiru (Babylonian astronomy)

Nibiru ( also Neberu, Nebiru; DNE - bé -ru, mulni -bi- rum ) is both the name of a Sumerian and Babylonian deity, on the other hand, the Sumerian and Babylonian mythological name of a celestial object in conjunction with an astronomical constellation.

Assignment as a deity

In the work of Babylonian creation story Enûma Elis ( as above [ the sky is not even called, was ] ) is mentioned in the fifth panel Nibiru as one of the most important deities of Marduk: When Marduk fixed the locations ( manzazu ) of Nibiru, Enlil and Ea in the sky. In other Babylonian texts, the sky deity Anu is called instead of the Babylonian deity Ea.

Assignment as a celestial object

Entries in Babylonian cuneiform tablets prompted the research to speculation whether the Deity Nibiru represents a celestial object or a particular constellation in the night sky. In the enumerations, Nibiru is mentioned at different astronomical phenomenon points in connection with positions of stars or planets. The respective stars or planets were subject to this no fixed assignments. The star of Ea was described for example in a wide variety of Revelation points, which was alternatively named as the star of sailing of the ship, Fomalhaut or Venus. Similar assignments also experienced the other stars of the gods, so also certain celestial coordinates are possible, in which appeared the stars of the gods.

Heaven items Nibiru

On a cuneiform tablet completely preserved Nibiru is described in more detail:

" Nibiru, which is to occupy the crossings of heaven and earth, because everyone Nibiru interviewed up and down if it does not find the passage. Nibiru is Marduk's star which the gods in the sky could be seen. Nibiru stands as a post at the turning point. To post Nibiru others may say, " exceeds the the middle of the sea ( Tiamat ) without calm, his name is Nibiru, for he takes the middle of it on". The path of the stars of the sky should be kept unchanged. "

Bohl called the text objectively the most difficult passage, although it is preserved in its entirety. An essential aid to education does not represent the Nibiru - panel

Nibiru as a planet or comet equating

The majority of historians Nibiru comes in from a moving celestial object. When assigning as equating with planets or comets speculation vary widely. Jupiter, Canopus, Venus, the phenomenon of trans-Neptunian object and the comet Halley are considered a potential candidate for Nibiru.

In a text in terms of the Babylonian Akitu -fests who worshiped deities are described in ritualistic survey on 5 Nisannu: The festivities of the 5th Nisannu started 4 hours prior to the end of night and with the same initiation ceremonies of the 4th Nisannu. Instead of blessing formula Pegasus the words were now spoken: Dimmer ankia as decision makers in the fates, Nunki as spokesman for the wisdom, Asari ( Marduk ) as Schenker of cultivated land, Jupiter as a signal transmitter, Mercury as a rain bringer, Saturn than truth and justice, Mars Bringer wild fire, Sirius emerged as Ausloter of sea water, the boat as the Lord of Enlil, Nenegar of itself, Numušda as a bringer of continuous rain, the chest of the scorpion as a topcoat over the sea, sun and moon reassure all men. Is there any other god but my God? ... [ waiting for answer] ... No? No one is like my God.

Conclusive evidence for the respective assignment theories could not be provided until now, even if the interpretations of the cuneiform statements were well-founded.

As part of the theories of doomsday in 2012 was also repeatedly called Nibiru as a source of loss. According to the theory, it would be a planet on a 3,600 -year orbit around the sun; some theories referred to as Nibiru brown dwarf. NASA then declared that no evidence of such an astronomical object present.

The Nibiru - point

Other historians, such as Immanuel Benzinger, Nibiru introduced with the astronomical term culminating in context, as he explained his thesis with reference to the research of the Hebrew Passover. Based on passages from the Old Testament Benzinger derives his view from the determination of the timing of the Passover with the formulation of the pre -sparing walking the moon through the pass ( ma'bara ). The pass sets Benzinger with the Nibiru - point equal, and fixed it in the different calendar types.

Thus, the Nibiru point is elsewhere, for example, used as a moon - North point at the time of the winter solstice as the beginning of New Year. The Nibiru point is thus the striking culmination, which is achieved mainly by the moon and indicates the beginning of a new year in different cultures. As far as the Nibiru point does not describe astronomically fixed position in the sky, but always depends on the requirements of the countries. In ancient Egypt, the Nibiru point was comparatively in the summer and there was subject to the laws of the Moon and Sirius.
