Bäckaskog Castle

The Bäckaskog castle is located in the Swedish municipality of Kristianstad on a narrow strip of land between the lakes and Ivösjön Oppmannsjön. The grounds also include a chapel. Today, the building houses a hotel, a restaurant and conference facilities.

History

Bäckaskog built in the 13th century as a monastery, which was shut down in 1537 during the Reformation. In the following years the noble families Ulfstand, Brahe, Bille, Parsberg and Ramel were lords for Good Bäckaskog. In 1684 it was used by Charles XI. confiscated for the crown. After that it was a residence for the commander of the Scanian Cavalry Regiment, but it was often leased.
