The state election in Baden- Württemberg in 2006 took place on March 26. The CDU under the office since 2005 Günther Oettinger suffered with 44.2 % light loss of votes, the SPD under the state chairman Ute Vogt fell to 25.2 % from and achieved - after 1996 - her until then second worst election result in Baden- Württemberg. The GREEN reached 11.7 % by then her second best election result since 1996 and were again the third strongest party. Also gained during the FDP / DVP, which came to 10.7 %, which represents their best result since 1968 and for the first time since that time was in the double digits again.

In addition to the four parties represented in the parliament only WASG and Republicans could be elected nationwide. The WASG achieved the best result with 3.1% of the Other. The Republicans, who were represented in the parliament from 1992 to 2001 and 2001 were 4.4 % failed almost at the five-percent hurdle again suffered electoral losses, and came to 2.5%. Only in the constituency Kirchheim, they achieved more than 5%.

The ödp was no longer able - in contrast to 1992, 1996 and 2001 - coverage to compete, even though they had been supported in this election from the Family Party of Germany ( FAMILY ). With 0.5% of their earnings declined again. Among the "other " it is the first example only fifth place, behind WASG, REP, NPD and PBC. The Animal Protection Party won - as in 1996 and 2001 to 0.2 %.

With the exception of the constituency Mannheim I, the CDU could pick any direct mandates. The SPD was in some places only the third strongest party; so they landed in Biberach and Tübingen behind the Greens and in Freudenstadt behind the FDP.

In the total of 70 electoral districts of Baden-Württemberg 7,519,048 citizens were eligible to vote. The turnout was 53.4 % significantly lower than in past elections. The turnout was particularly those under 30 years of only 33 %. The proportion of women in parliament rose in the elections from 21.8% to 23.7%.
