The state election in Rhineland -Palatinate in 2006 took place on March 26, simultaneously with the state elections in Baden- Württemberg and Saxony- Anhalt as well as the local elections in Hesse instead. Election winner was the SPD, which henceforth could govern with an absolute majority alone.
