The state election in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2001 took place on March 25, simultaneously with the state elections in Baden- Württemberg instead. Election winner was the SPD, which was able to continue to strengthen the social-liberal coalition.

Since 1991, ruled in Rhineland-Palatinate, a social-liberal coalition of SPD and FDP since 1994 with Kurt Beck ( SPD) as Prime Minister.
