The state election in Rhineland- Palatinate in 1975 took place on March 9. Election winner was led by Prime Minister Helmut Kohl CDU, which was able to increase its absolute majority and could still achieve the best result to date historically a party in Rhineland- Palatinate. The opposition parties SPD and FDP had, however, suffered losses at the polls.

Valid Votes: 2,120,481 Invalid votes: 20 663 (0.97 %)

The initial allocation of seats the state election of 1971 was: 53 seats CDU, SPD 44 seats, FDP 3 seats. A ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court of 11 October 1972 with the election law, the country was partially unconstitutional, the FDP received three additional seats, while the two seats SPD and the CDU lost one seat.
