Bluefish ( Badis badis )

The bluefish ( Badis badis ) is a species of the family of Badidae. He comes in the Ganges and its tributaries in India, Nepal and Bangladesh, the Mahanadi, the lowlands of Assam as well as in Pakistan and Bhutan before. Features

Blue perch reach a length of up to 8 cm. The species has reddish brown in ground color on numerous red and blue spots. For this purpose, a conspicuous black spot come on the base of the pectoral fins and several dark spots along the base of the dorsal fin and along this. The dorsal fin has 15 to 17 hard and 7 to 10 soft rays. The pectoral fins usually have 12 soft rays, the anal fin has six to eight soft rays. 26 to 28 ribs are present.

Way of life

The species lives individually in rivers, ponds and ditches. She considers herself primarily in open water, and feeds on worms, insects and crustaceans. The 30 to 100 eggs are laid after mating with flashy dance in nests which are guarded by the old animals.

System

The bluefish has been assigned previously to the family of Nanderbarsche ( Nandidae ) and there were two subspecies distinguished. The subspecies Badis badis burmanicus will, however, now regarded as a separate species Badis ruber.
