Bags & Trane is a jazz album by musician Milt Jackson and John Coltrane, which was released in 1961 by Atlantic Records. Besides the two play Hank Jones, Paul Chambers and Connie Kay. Producer of the album was Nesuhi Ertegun.

The album was recorded on 15 January 1959. It is the only known collaboration between Coltrane and Jackson. On the CD edition there are a few other titles that recorded during the same recording session, but were first published in 1970 on the album The Coltrane Legacy. They were not initially come to the album Bags & Trane "because they sound swing blues and ballads numbers were, but fell off in comparison to the other recordings on the concentration and intensity a little ."

Effect

"Only because of the big names, this album could sell, " it said in 1961 in the journal Billboard. The two stars of jazz harmonized, although Coltrane's approach was more modern than that of Jackson, on the very lyrical plate well together. Unlike Jackson Coltrane brought a no own compositions. In the magazine Down Beat, the album received only 3 1 /2 ( out of 5 ) points. In contrast, Allmusic awarded the maximum number of 5 possible points.
