Bagua, Peru

Bagua is the Provinhaupstadt of the eponymous province in the region of the Amazon in the north of the South American Andean country of Peru.

Location

It is situated on a natural platform on the Rio Utcubamba. Bagua is located approximately 162 kilometers from the provincial capital of the neighboring province of Chachapoyas away. Neighboring towns are Bagua Grande in the east ( 20 km), Bella Vista in the west ( 20 km) and the village of La Peca in the east (10 km). At 10 km from National Road N3 to the south leads a connection.

Rioting

In April 2009, broke into the Amazon to Bagua rebellions of indigenous people against oil and gas production projects in the region. President Alan García was nierderschlagen the riots by the police, where both the police as well as the indigenous people were harmed. More than 30 people died in the fighting killed and over 150 were injured.
