Baitul Mukarram

The Baitul Mokarram ( German: " The Holy House "; Bengali: মসজিদ বায়তুল মোকাররম / বাইতুল মোকাররম, Masjid Bāẏtul Mokarram / ​​Baitul Mokarram; Baitul Mukarram also - বায়তুল মুকাররম, Bāẏtul Mukarram ) is Bangladesh's largest mosque and is at the center of the capital Dhaka.

As Dhaka grew rapidly in the late 1950s as the then capital of East Pakistan, the idea of ​​a centrally located large mosque was built. To this end, the Baitul Mukarram Mosque Society was founded in 1959. The ideal building site, land was on the edge of the old town, at the transition to the new Dhaka, have been found. Construction began on 27 January 1960 and inaugurated in 1963.

Architecture

T. Abdul Hussain Thariani was the executive architect of the mosque complex, which also took account of shops, offices, a library and parking. The mosque has taken on a variety of traditional elements of Islamic despite its modern architecture and is unique due to their similarity to the Kaaba in Mecca in the South Asian country.
