Bakhuis Mountains

The Bakhuisgebirge is a 150 km long from south to north sprawling mountain range in Suriname, in the district Sipaliwini.

It is a date in West Suriname, west immediately adjacent to the Central Suriname Nature Reserve Mountains. Most of yet unnamed peaks reach a maximum height of 1,027 m. The Bakhuisgebirge is as part of the huge, about 30 km wide and 350 km long faults (Horst ) saw that extend from Corantijn to the coastal area.

That is not part of the nature reserve, is probably due to its wealth of bauxite ( bauxite plateau ), there are plans for the reduction since the 70s of the last century.

The mountain is named after the leader of the 1901 expedition undertaken Coppename, the Dutch Old Military Louis August Bakhuis ( 1855-1932 ), named.
