Sipaliwini District
Sipaliwini is a district in the south of Suriname. It has an area of 130,567 km ², making it larger than all other districts of Suriname together.
The name derives from the language of the Arawaks from: sipa means "stone " and wini "water" and "river".
The district has no own capital, but is administered directly from Paramaribo from. However, he is in parliament ( Assemblée Nationale De ) represented by four MPs.
In the southwest of Sipaliwini there are border disputes with Guyana, since a large part of the district is occupied by this country.
