Paramaribo District

Paramaribo is one of ten districts in Suriname. As district he bordered on the north to the mouth of Suriname (flux ) and the Atlantic Ocean. Paramaribo is the same as by far the largest agglomeration of the Republic of Suriname, the country's capital.

It has an area of 182 km ², the smallest of the districts in Suriname. The population is around 241,000.

In parliament ( Assemblée Nationale De ) is represented by 17 deputies of the Paramaribo District.

History

Paramaribo was first mid-17th century by the British with the construction of Fort Willoughby, later renamed Fort Zeelandia by Europeans settled permanently. In 1667, the fort was conquered by the Dutch Abraham Crijnssen. The Peace of Breda, the region became part of the Netherlands final.
