Baksheesh

The word bakshish or baksheesh comes from Persian, where it is written بخشش, and means as much as gift or gift. It is in the Islamic world in the original sense a kind of alms. This includes financial support. The Muslim religion expects of rich believers to pass on some of their assets or income to poorer.

Tourists enter baksheesh in Islamic countries in general within the meaning of gratuity for services or favors.

The term baksheesh has been adopted in India. Both here and in Arab countries, it is customary to speed by the administration of baksheesh management operations or to obtain a special favor.

In German-speaking countries, the Balkans and all other countries of the former Ottoman Empire baksheesh is a colloquial term for a bribe.
