Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania

Bala Cynwyd is a village in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

The name goes back to the two villages Bala Cynwyd and that are perceived as a cohesive settlement due to strong construction activity. The village is mainly known for the shopping center Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center and train stations Bala Cynwyd and. The two towns were founded in the 1680s by Welsh Quakers, therefore, originate the name. The most famous son of the village is the former U.S. Secretary of State Alexander Haig.

The village is just off the western city limits of Philadelphia on the old highway to Lancaster, the boundary in the southeast is marked by the City Avenue and the north- east by the Schuylkill. The old center of Cynwyd is located approximately one kilometer northwest of the City Avenue.

Through the village of the former railway line of the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR ) leads to Reading. The two stations along the route, Bala Cynwyd at the city limits and half a mile to the northwest, are operated in the passenger from the line R6 of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority ( SEPTA ). This route was after the bankruptcy of the PRR 1970, a few miles north-west abandoned beyond Manayunk in favor of the parallel track of, so Cynwyd last stop for all trains until now competing Reading.
