Balduin Hoyoul

Baldwin Hoyoul (* 1548 in the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, † November 26, 1594 in Stuttgart ) was a Franco- Flemish composer and musician.

Life

Hoyoul occurred in 1561 at the age of about 13 years as Diskantist in the Stuttgart court orchestra one. In the years 1564-1565 he was a pupil of the composer Orlando di Lasso in Munich, then again to return to the court orchestra of Stuttgart. Here he worked as a violist and composer, in 1589 he took over as successor to his father-in- leadership of the orchestra and was appointed Kapellmeister. 1593 he applied unsuccessfully for the post of court Kapellmeister in Dresden. 1594, he was a victim of the plague. His successor, also a lasso student was Leonhard Lechner.

His two sons Johann Ludwig Hoyoul and Friedrich Hoyoul (around 1577 to 1655 ) were also musicians. The latter was an acting first at the court in Heidelberg and later at the Danish court in Copenhagen violinist and cornetto.
