Hofkapelle Stuttgart

The Court Orchestra Württemberg Stuttgart was the band of the Württemberg dynasty.

History

The chapel was described in the 16th century and had over the centuries, changing occupations.

In 1617 it consisted of 50 " excellent singers " and was attached to the royal chamber music ensemble, 1699 from 11 Kapellknaben; in the period from 1736-1750 choristers and Kapellknaben were used to opera performances from the chapel. During this time, the court orchestra changed obviously in an opera chorus, from which later the Stuttgart State Opera Chorus should emerge, while developed an orchestra under the name Court Orchestra.

In 1818 subscription concerts were introduced under Johann Nepomuk Hummel. This promoted the development of the orchestra from a court orchestra into a modern symphony orchestra. Today Wurttemberg State Orchestra Stuttgart is in the tradition of the Württemberg court chapel.

Since 2002, the conductor Frieder Bernius calls his Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra was established in 1991 as a court orchestra in Stuttgart.
