Hermann Zumpe

Hermann Zumpe ( born April 9, 1850 in OppachEquipment; † September 4, 1903 in Munich) was a German conductor.

Life

His childhood was spent in Zumpe pigeons home / Spree in Upper Lusatia. It reminds of Zumpeweg in pigeons home. From 1891 to 1895 he worked as a Kapellmeister in Stuttgart. In the autumn of 1895 he moved to Munich and took over the management of the later Munich Philharmonic. In 1897 he took an engagement as Kapellmeister in Schwerin. During the four years in the Mecklenburg residence he led the Schwerin court orchestra into one of the first orchestras in the German Reich. Under his direction, the orchestra regularly traveled to guest appearances by Berlin, London, Madrid and Saint Petersburg.

1901 Zumpe returned back to Munich and took over as music director, the artistic director of the newly built Prinzregententheaters. On August 20, 1901, the house was opened with The Mastersingers of Nuremberg. Other productions of operas by Richard Wagner followed.

Hermann Zumpe died on September 4, 1903 in Munich at the age of 53 years.
