Ice Hotel

The Balea Lake (also Balea Lake, Romanian Lacul Bâlea, Romanian place name also Balea Lac, Hungarian Bilea -tó ) is a glacial lake in the Romanian Carpathians.

Location

The lake is located in the Fagaras Mountains on the high street Transfogaraschen ( Transfagarasan ) between the mountains negoiu and Moldoveanu, the two highest mountains in the Romanian Carpathians. The lake is around 77 km from Sibiu, 68 km from the town of Fagaras and 85 km from Curtea de Arges.

Environment

The Transfogarasche high road is passable only in summer to Balea Lake. During the rest of the lake is only accessible by cable car from the north from Balea Waterfall ( Balea Cascada ) from.

The area around the lake offers guaranteed snow until June. In addition to small natural slopes around the Bâlea hut there is also a 10 km long descent to the Balea waterfall.
