Ballymena Showgrounds

Ballymena United

The Ballymena Showgrounds is a stadium in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. It is since 1928 the home of Ballymena United FC.

The Showgrounds

The Showgrounds except for the stadium include four more turf fields and one artificial grass and clay court. One of these fields is used by the amateurs of United, another of Wakehurst FC. The other places will be played by various youth and amateur teams.

The stadium

The stadium has 3,000 seats and 2,000 standing places. They are distributed over the two long sides of the field.

New stand

The New Stand replaced the clock stand, which was demolished in 2001 for the construction of the new grandstand. He has about 1800 supporters of the home team a seat and is fully covered. It also includes about sixteen locker rooms, offices, and bars, as well as press and club facilities. The first game with the new grandstand, which runs parallel to the sidelines, was in the Ulster Cup 2002 against Carrick Rangers. It was officially opened but only with a match against Bolton Wanderers. The main grandstand, which was built for £ 3 million, has until now still no name. However, this problem should be resolved by the sale to a sponsor.

Warden Street Stand

The Warden Street Stand was built in 1977 for £ 250,000, as the old wooden grandstand was burnt down. The opening was in 1980 at the All-Ireland Cup against Shamrock Rovers. The grandstand holds just over 1200 seats and is fully covered. In front of the seats, there is standing room for 2,000 standing supporters. Until the opening of the New state of the Warden Street stand was the main grandstand. Lately there have been reports that the grandstand is to be expanded to 2,000 seats.
