Ballyshannon

Ballyshannon ( Irish: Béal Átha Seanaidh ) is a town in the extreme south of County Donegal in the North West of Ireland with 3,486 inhabitants ( 2011).

Recently there a futuristic bridge over the Erne was inaugurated. The new bypass relieved the city very much. Prior to the place are the Assaroe waterfalls. The name comes from the Old Irish fire and sun god Áed.

Beyond Ireland Ballyshannon is a venue of the Ballyshannon Folk & Traditional Music Festival, one of the three most important Irish folk festivals in the country, is known. It has been held annually since 1977.

Rory Gallagher was born in Ballyshannon.
