Balthasar Ferdinand Moll

Balthasar Ferdinand Moll ( born January 4, 1717 Innsbruck, † March 3, 1785 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor.

He came from a Tyrolean sculptor family and received his education from his father Nicholas. He also studied with Georg Raphael Donner brother at the academy, where he is shown from 1738 and from 1751 to 1765 was professor.

During the reign of Maria Theresa numerous orders received at court. It was used here mainly for the production of representational objects such as floats or sleighs, next he created numerous rococo splendor sarcophagi for the ruling family, who were buried in the imperial crypt of the Capuchin monastery in Vienna.

His first work commissioned by Empress Maria Theresa in 1748 of the magnificent sarcophagus for the Archduchess Karoline. But his real masterpiece is the double sarcophagus of Maria Theresa and Emperor Francis I in the Imperial Crypt in the year, 1754. He is about three feet long and about two feet wide. In 1894 ( 18th District ) was named the minor street after him in Vienna Waehring.
