Baltimore, County Cork

Baltimore ( Irish: Dún na Sead - Castle of Jewels ) is one of the southernmost places in Ireland and a small port town south-west of Skibbereen in County Cork. However, the anglicized name is derived from the Irish Baile an Tí Mhoir ( place of the big house ) and refers to the Castle of O'Driscoll. The clan, whose name is derived from Ó hEidirsceoil, dominated the area. Baltimore was attacked on June 20, 1631 by Algerian corsairs. About 100 residents were kidnapped into slavery.

Interesting that is established by the British government after the Irish Rebellion of 1798 in the harbor columnar beacon " Baltimore Beacon " or " Lot's wife ". In the harbor, the ferry leaves after Schull (or Skull ) from on the Mizen Peninsula, Iceland also Sherkin and Cape Clear Iceland starts before.
