Skibbereen ( Irish: An Sciobairin ) is a place in Ireland with 2,338 inhabitants ( 2006) and is called the capital of West Cork. The name means something like small boat harbor. The river Ilen, whose course runs through the town, terminates in the city of Baltimore into the sea.

History
