Baltra Island (Spanish: Isla Baltra, English:. Baltra Iceland ) is one of the smaller islands of the Galápagos archipelago.

The Seymour Sur also called the island, in contrast to the more northerly island of Seymour Norte, is only about 1 km off the north coast of Santa Cruz, the second largest island of the archipelago. Administratively, the non - military use shares the island of Santa Cruz de municipalidad based in Puerto Ayora. On the 27 km ² island is located to the Seymour Airport ( IATA code: GPS, ICAO code: SEGS ) of the commercially most used airport in the archipelago (the second is located in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristóbal ), so that many Galapagos tourists first set foot on this island. On the island there is also a military base of the Ecuadorian Army (all three branches of the armed forces are represented ) and institutions connected with Coast Guard barracks.

During the Second World War, the U.S. established a military airfield to protect the western entrance of the Panama Canal. The units were stationed here but at no time involved in hostilities.
