Banaz

Banaz is a Turkish town with 15,241 inhabitants, belonging to the province of Usak. It is located 30 km east of Usak, around 70 kilometers west of Afyon.

With over 70 villages Banaz is a focal point for the rural population. Northeast of Banaz is the 2309 m high mountain Murat Dagi.

The river Banaz, is one of the sources of the Määnders. He has his sources at the southern slopes of Murat Dagi, who also joins the regions Banaz and Kütahya.

History

In and around Banaz there are various relics that date back to the time until the 5th century BC. The most famous Akmonia is near the village of Ahat. There, ornaments and mosaics were found to show the sports competitions.

Agriculture

In the plain of Banaz which is very fertile thanks to the eponymous river, wheat, oats, corn, sugar beets, and chickpeas are mainly grown.
