Bandar-e Anzali

Bandar Anzali ( persian بندر انزلی, DMG Bandar -i Anzali and Bandar -e Anzeli and before the Iranian Revolution Bandar Pahlavi / بندر پهلوی / Bandar -i Pahlavi ) is a port city in the Iranian province of Gilan on the Caspian Sea and has 114 105 inhabitants ( 2012).

Bandar -e Anzali is the main Iranian commercial port on the Caspian Sea. It is located 39 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Rasht. After Tehran there are 354 kilometers of roads. Because of the continuous lowering of the water level in the Caspian Sea a constant dredging is required to keep open the port for small vessels up to 1000 tonnes. The main port is located at the entrance to a lagoon with customs offices on the east side. On the west side is a modern summer resort.

The city was formerly known under the name Enzeli, later in honor of the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as Bandar-e Pahlavi or Pahlavi. After the fall of the Shah's regime, she was again changed back in Bandar -e Anzali. In Anzali is also a Polish cemetery ( flight line during World War II 1942). It is the second largest Polish cemetery in Iran.

Attractions

Interesting is the harbor with its fish market. From there, boat and fishing trips are possible in the river delta of the Sefid Rud or the inland waters ( Mordab ) with its very varied flora and fauna. A specialty is the sturgeon conveniently offered - the caviar is processed in the resident state fishing station.

Traffic

There is a ferry to Baku (Azerbaijan). Bandar Anzali has good road access - the ride on country roads is still difficult and should only be carried out during daytime.

Weather

Because of its location on the Caspian Sea north of the Alborz mountain range dominates temperate climate with some much precipitation. In winter there may be snowfall in Bandar Anzali however.
