Bandar- e Imam Khomeini ( Persian بندر امام خميني ) is a port city in the province of Khuzestan in Iran in the Persian Gulf.
Bandar- e Imam Khomeini has about 72,000 inhabitants, the former name was Bandar -e Shapur. Until the Iran -Iraq war, it was the most important oil port in the country.
The city is named after Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the late leader of the 1989 Islamic Revolution in Iran.
