Bangkok Noi Railway Station

The Thonburi station ( also: Thon Buri Railway Station, Thai: สถานี ธนบุรี ;) is a historic train station in the Bangkok Noi district of Bangkok, capital of Thailand.

Location

The train station is next to the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok Noi district, directly on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River and the southern shore of Khlong Bangkok Noi, where it flows into the Chao Phraya.

Traffic

History

The station was given in 1900 by King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) in order. The resident Muslims were resettled, and instead of an old mosque donated the king on the opposite bank of Khlong Bangkok Yai a piece of land upon which the new mosque " Masjid Ansar Al- Sunnah " was built.

The design in the style of brick expressionism comes from the German architect Karl Döring. During World War II it was used by the Japanese as a supply base and was therefore destroyed. After the war was Field Marshal Phibul Songkhram the station building built in the same style again.

In 2003, the actual station was moved about one kilometers west to the station " Bangkok Noi ," but which was now renamed " Thon Buri Station". The old building has since been unused. The vacant railway land is provided for the expansion of the hospital, the historic station building is to be integrated into the extension to the Siriraj Hospital.

The disused railway station served 2003 movie about the world of Jackie Chan as a backdrop for the fictional historic railway station of Agra in 80 days.
