The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology ( BUET also called; Bengali: বাংলাদেশ প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, Bāṃlādeś Prakauśal Biśbabidyālaẏ, Bangladesh Prakaushal Bishbabidyalay ) is a technical state university in Dhaka in Bangladesh. With approximately 4,000 students, it is one of the most important technical universities in Bangladesh.

History

The origins of BUET go back to 1876, founded in Nalgola at Old Dhaka Surveying School, the first trained surveyors for railway construction. With money from the Nawab family originated from this school, Ahsanullah School of Engineering, which offered 3-year diploma courses in technical subjects. After the partition of India in 1947, the school was expanded under the leadership of the University of Dhaka to Ahsanullah Engineering College, which bachelor degree programs offered. In 1962, the College was again renamed East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology ( EPUET ). Since that time, close contacts with Texas A & M University are maintained. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, the university received its present name, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology ( BUET ).
