Baojia system

Baojia (Chinese保甲, Pinyin bǎojiǎ, W.-G. pao -chia ) describes a first set up by Wang Anshi in 1076 during the Song Dynasty in China system of local self-government. With this system were collected taxes, provide for law and order and certain moral standards controlled.

In Wang's original system ten families ( " guard " german watch, ) became a unit called bao summarized. In the Ming Dynasty, this unit has been designated as jia (English tithing ) and the 10 jia then formed a bao. Within the bao jia and rotated the leadership post, while the respective owner jiazhang / jiazong or Baozheng / was called Baozhang. In practice, however, Jia consisted of 4-13 families, and BaO contained less or more than 10 Jia. In some parts of Jingnan there was a dang -called intermediate layer of 30 families or a layer over the bao.
