Baptist Union of Wales

The Baptist Union of Wales ( Baptist Union of Wales - Welsh: Undeb Bedydd wyr Cymru ) is an association of Baptist churches in Wales.

History

Hugh Evans, a pastor of the General Baptists was around the year 1646 one of the first Baptist, preaching in Wales. The first church was established in 1649 by John Miles ( 1621-1683 ) and Thomas Proud in Ilston, both belonging to the Particular Bapists in London. The first General Assembly of Welsh Baptists was held in 1650 by three municipalities.

1866 National Association of Baptist Churches was founded in Wales. One of the most important Welsh preacher Christmas Evans ( 1766-1838 ).

Statistics, organization and language

1995 belonged to the Baptist Union of Wales in 544 municipalities with 25 384 members. 146 communities with 9,552 members were also represented in the Baptist Union of Great Britain. The headquarters of the Union is based in Swansea.

  • The Evangelical Alliance Wales, The Free Church Council, Cytûn ( Churches Together in Wales ) (see: Evangelical Alliance)

Many communities in the Union celebrate their worship in the Welsh language.
