Baron Aldenham

Baron Aldenham, of Aldenham in the County of Hertford, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, named after the village of Aldenham.

Award

The title was in 1896 awarded to the businessman and banker Henry Hucks Gibbs. This was a senior partner in the banking house Antony Gibbs & Sons ( founded by his grandfather Antony Gibbs ) and nearly 50 years as Director, at times also governor of the Bank of England. He also sat for the Conservative Party 1891/92 in the House of Commons for the District of the City of London.

Another title

The fourth son of the first Baron Herbert Cokayne Gibbs was raised in 1923 for Baron Hunsdon of Hunsdon.

After the death of the third Baron Aldenham in 1939 the barony Aldenham went to his cousin, the second Baron Hunsdon of Hunsdon, over. Since then the two baronies remained united.
