Baron Brabourne

Baron Brabourne of Brabourne in the County of Kent is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

The barony is pronounced bray -burn.

Baron Brabourne

The title was 1880 for the Liberal politician Edward Knatchbull - Hugessen created, the second son of Sir Edward Knatchbull, 9th Baronet of Mersham Hatch. This had been a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons and Secretary of State in the interior and the Colonial Office.

Since 1919, the family is called only Knatchbull.

The 7th Baron married 1946 Patricia Mountbatten, the eldest daughter of the famous naval officer and last British Viceroy of India, Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma. As its title could pass power to his daughters express regulation, Patricia Knatchbull inherited when her father's death in 1979, its title.

On the death of the 7th Baron in 2005, his eldest son inherited the Barony and became 8th Baron. He will also inherit the title on the death of his mother. The barony then becomes the subordinate title of Earl Mountbatten of Burma are.

Baronetcy of Mersham Hatch

The baronetcy was created in 1641 in the Baronetage of England for Norton Knatchbull, had been the Member of Parliament in the House of Commons. Many of the subsequent Baronet also sat in the House of Commons.

On the death of the 12th baronet in 1917 the title passed to his cousin, the fourth Baron Brabourne, who thus became the 13th baronet. Since then, the title of Baronet Knatchbull of Mersham Hatch is connected to the barony Brabourne.
