Baron Stratheden

Baron Stratheden, of Cupar in the County of Fife, and Baron Campbell of St Andrews in the County of Fife, are two hereditary title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, supported by the Campbell family.

Ceremonies

The title Baron Stratheden was awarded to Hon Mary Campbell, wife of the prominent Whig politician and jurist Sir John Campbell and daughter of James Scarlett, 1st Baron Abinger in 1836. Her husband had been passed over at that time Attorney General and twice at the appointment as Master of the Rolls. When he threatened to resign, it was agreed to bring his wife to the peerage.

John Campbell himself was 1841, when he should be appointed as Lord Chancellor of Ireland, raised to Baron Campbell. Later he was Lord Chancellor of the United Kingdom.

Both titles are out together, since the spouses were succeeded by her eldest son.
