Barrandov

Barrandov is too Hlubočepy in the district Prague 5 belonging quarter of Prague. It is located on a rock on the left side of Moldova and is named after the acting in Bohemia French geologist and paleontologist Joachim Barrande, the explorer of trilobites. Some of these he is said to have found in the local rock wall.

Barrandov is best known for its film studios, which were founded in the early 20th century there. These belonged to the Second World War, the founders, ancestors of the later Czech president Václav Havel, before they were expropriated.

It was here that the majority of Czech and Czechoslovak film productions, including several Oscar-winning films such as Kolya (1996).
