Barry Jones, Baron Jones

Stephen Barry Jones, Baron Jones, PC ( born June 26, 1938) is a British Labour politician.

Youth and Education

Jones went on to Hawarden Grammar School and Bangor College of Education. He became a teacher and was president of the National Union of Teachers in Flint County. He completed a two-year military service in the Royal Welsh Regiment of Fusiliers.

Political career

Jones ran unsuccessfully in 1966 in the constituency of Northwich in 1970 and Member of Parliament in the constituency of East Flintshire; he held until 1983 the seat.

From 1974 to 1979 he was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales and took over in 1983 the seat of Parliament for the constituency of Alyn and Deeside.

1994 Jones was appointed by the Prime Minister as a member of the Intelligence and Security Committee, where he served until 2001; was dissolved when the committee in 2001, Jones gave up his parliamentary seat and was shortly thereafter erhobrn as Baron Jones for Life Peer. His successor at the seat of parliament was Mark Tami.

Other positions

In 2007 he was elected President of Glyndwr University in Wales.

Personal

Jones has since his youth fan of Everton FC.
