Barry Maister

Barry John Maister ( born June 6, 1948 in Christchurch ) is a New Zealand Olympic medalist in hockey, which is since 2010 a member of the IOC.

Life

Maister took over as hockey players participated in three Olympic Games: 1968 finished the New Zealand team to the seventh and ninth place in 1972. 1976 won the New Zealand team and caused quite one of two gold medals for New Zealand at these games, the other John Walker won the 1500 -meter run. Maister was also nominated for the 1980 Olympic Games, but was not allowed to participate because of the Olympic boycott. Overall, Barry Maister completed 85 caps for New Zealand.

From 2000 to 2010, Barry Maister was General Secretary of the New Zealand Olympic Committee and in charge of New Zealand athletes at five Olympic Games and three Commonwealth Games. At his suggestion, the Olympic Museum was opened in 2008 in Wellington. In addition, Maister was and is also active in the ONOC, the Association of oceanic Olympic Committee. Maister 2010 was elected to the IOC. There he was a member of the Evaluation Commission for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

Since 2012 Maister officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
