Bartholomae's law

Bartholomaes law is a Christian Bartholomae 1882 formulated According to the law. It describes the development of a voiced aspirated plosive (Media aspirate ) and one immediately following voiceless non- breathed plosive ( tenuis ) to a sequence of a voiced plosive and non breathed a voiced plosive behauchteten.

The Bartholomaesche law works in the Indo-Iranian. For example, in the Old Indian Dental loud- t- in the suffix -ta-, which is used to form the past participle passive, voiced and aspirated when the root syllable has a voiced aspirated consonant in final position. The breathy voiced plosive the root syllable, however, loses the aspiration. Compare: altind. Labh ' take ' -ta- > labdha ' in focus '.
