Bartholomäus Aich

Bartholomew Aich was a German organist and composer of the 17th century. About his life little is known: He came from Uttenweiler to Biberach an der Riss, and was organist of the Lindauer Ladies pin.

Life and work

For the wedding of Count Maximilian Willibald of Waldburg- Wolfegg with Clara Isabella Princess of Arenberg Arschot and on December 6, 1648 Lindau, he composed the musical and dramatic festival armamentarium comicum amoris et honoris on a text whose authorship is unknown as yet. The piece was premiered at the wedding celebrations on December 8, 1648 Lindauer Jesuit school. The Latin festival combined the tradition of Jesuit drama with the monody of the Italian music of the early Baroque and one of the earliest surviving operas and oratorios of Italian style in Germany. Due to the very tailored to the occasion contents, an interspersed with biblical content allegorical and heraldic representation of the merging of the two family coat of arms of the couple in an alliance coat of arms, the factory but no further use and was therefore not found known about the premiere addition.

The only handed down work Aichs the festival is held in the music holdings of the Princely Collections of Waldburg- Wolfegg. On September 11, 2005, it was again listed as part of the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival in the banquet hall of the castle Wolfegg by the Hassler Consort under the direction of Franz Raml first time.
